Sorting out a Case 420 issue

Case 420s vary enough that the exact version matters. What details do you need first to sort a no-crank, no-travel, or weak-hydraulic complaint without guessing at parts?

Start with what it actually does when you turn the key and release the seat bar. No crank, cranks but won't fire, starts but won't travel, or travels and the loader is weak are four different paths. Then the exact model/serial and whether it has hand controls or pilot controls. That keeps an interlock or wiring problem from getting mixed up with an engine or hydraulic problem.

Get the serial number and whether it's a wheeled 420 or a CT version in the first post. Year and exact model decal help too. Case used similar numbers across different machines, and the wiring and control setup can change the diagnosis.

The first symptom matters more than the model number right now. A no-crank problem is usually interlock or electrical, while crank/no-start is a different trail entirely.

Include what lights up on the dash and any warning lamps. A dead display points a different direction than a live dash with no crank.
